People

Phone numbers on your roster

Every person can now carry a phone number alongside their name, email, and rank.
  • Add it when you create a person, or click the phone cell on the Physicians table to edit it in place.
  • CSV imports pick the column up, so you can bring numbers in with the rest of your roster.
Puffin for residents

The app opens where you left it

Puffin remembers whether a resident was last looking at the day, week, or month view and opens there next time, instead of resetting to the default.

Clearer resident invites

  • The invite email now labels the link code, so residents know which part to type in, and links straight to the Puffin listing in the App Store.
  • Residents only see schedules you have switched on for the app. A schedule without Enable in app turned on no longer shows up when they link.

Puffin on Android, and linking later

  • Puffin runs on Android. Date and time pickers behave the way Android users expect.
  • A resident can sign in and use the app before they have a link code, then connect to your program whenever it arrives.
Publishing

Publishing fills resident calendars

  • The Publish popover has an Enable in app switch. Turn it on and publishing pushes each linked resident’s assignments to Puffin.
  • Republishing updates every linked resident. There is no second step to remember.
  • A resident who links after you have published sees their calendar fill in right away, and it refreshes while the app is open.
See Set up for the app.

Signing in, and settings

  • Residents sign in with Apple or a six-digit code sent to their email.
  • Settings shows which schedule a resident is linked to, lets them set their display timezone, and gives them a way to delete their account.

The resident calendar

  • Day, week, and month views, color-coded by rotation. Swipe between dates, tap a shift for detail, jump to any month from the header.
  • Residents can add their own events next to their shifts, drag one to move it, and drag its edge to make it longer.
  • Times follow the schedule’s timezone. A resident who travels can switch the display timezone and every shift moves with it.

Blocks

Shifts live on the block

Each block now has its own shift editor, so you set the shifts that belong to a rotation in the same place you define the rotation.
Call schedules

Call schedules read like block schedules

  • Alerts show on the call grid. Cells involved in a violation get a red dog-ear, and clicking a cell breaks the alert down per physician.
  • Long call schedules scroll sideways, and the minimap tracks where you are.
  • Ask Puffin works from the call grid.

Rules show their structure

Rule cards now mark whether the parts of a rule are joined by “and” or by “or”, so a rule with several conditions reads correctly at a glance.

A month slot is 28 days

A “month” slot is a four-week block of 28 days, weekday aligned, thirteen of them a year. This keeps month-long rotations lined up with the rest of the schedule instead of drifting with calendar month lengths.
Call schedules

Call schedules can stand on their own

  • A call schedule no longer has to hang off a block schedule. Pick a parent when you create it, or leave it standalone. See Schedule links.
  • A person can hold more than one shift in a day, as long as the shifts don’t overlap.
  • Locks, labels, and unsaved draft edits behave on the call grid the same way they do on a block schedule.
